The label boldly announces that this is: The worlds most extraordinary beverage. Samichlaus, also called Christmas beer is brewed on December 6th each year and then aged for 10 months. It is 14% so needs to be treated with respect. I had planned on keeping it for Christmas but I ran out of interesting beers to try. I can always get another one and I probably will to be honest.
Malt, prunes and caramel or fairly in your face from the first sniff. Once in the mouth you find it is very sweet and tastes syrupy but it does not feel like syrup. This is a lager after all. I find it spicy and the alcohol was pretty obvious and had a nice warming effect. A brilliant beer to sip on a cold night. Prunes and fruitcake abound. Delicious stuff if you can handle a sweet beer. I have read that this goes great with chocolate, damn I ate all my chocolate. Now I need more chocolate and more Samichlaus.
