I started off with the Urbock. It smelled like Caramel infused smoked kippers. The taste is again sweet caramel with an incredibly distinct smokiness. I also got some candy floss (cotton candy) and a little roast coffee. It is also quite boozy. I enjoyed it

Smoked kippers anyone?
Pin It Now!
I have had the more regular Aecht Schlenkerla Marzen and the Wheat so I was happy to try two more from the range.

A much less smokey affair this one. The Doppelbock is everything you would expect from the style but a little more bitter at the end than many a sweet doppelbock. In fact most DoppelBocks are syrupy and too sweet for me, this was just right. I got some vanilla mixed in with the smoke which in itself is quite light and not overpowering. This was a lovely beer, very well balanced and I have to get some more of it. I think this is my favourite of the Aecht Schlenkerla range.

I have a couple of bottles of the Eiche in my cellar and am looking forward to seeing the difference between the traditional beech smoked flavours and the oak in this one.
