This is the meh... From Thwaites, It's as you would expect for a 4.6% English pale ale. A grainy body with a little earthy hop bitterness. Refreshing and sessionable but nothing to go hunting down. The sort of beer you would quite happily consume on a night out.
On the other hand, (the) Left Hand (always good for awesome beer) have produced an imperial stout that they claim will make you wake up dead. I'm not sure why this might be advantageous to the drinker or even desirable for that matter. My first reaction was "wow that's some beer" and I hadn't even tasted it yet. The aroma was superb with mixed berries, vanilla, smoke and a winey/port like quality. I was not disappointed when I tasted it either, everything in the aroma was packed in to the flavour with the addition of chocolate, cream, candy floss (cotton candy) and strong fruit flavours, mainly dark berries and raisins.
The result is an astounding beer and one I would love to find on tap somewhere.
With some luck I might even get the chance next week as I jet off to Alabama for Christmas. Actually I will be spending Christmas itself in Florida as we will be in Disneyworld so between Orlando FL and Foley AL I might get lucky. At the last I will have some good beer.

The Wake up Dead is lovely all right. A mate in work brought me a bottle back from a trip to the US earlier this year. He thought it'd help re-kickstart the blog, but I just drank it for pleasure ;)
ReplyDeletePerhaps they mean it will wake you up again if you are unfortunate enough to already be dead, which would be much more useful.
