A few weeks ago I popped in to The Czech Inn to try another regional beer. Already being in love with the Herold beers, I decided on one I have noticed many times but not been able to bring myself to drink instead of Herold Dark.
I was hoping for an eye opener like Herold but instead I got a sub par Pilsner. There is pretty much nothing interesting going on at all, not even the wonderful bitterness from a Pilsner Urquell. However as a thirst quencher you could do a lot worse. It is actually quite dry and not too fizzy so you will not be bloated by drinking too many of them. I can now say I have had a beer from Slovakia though.

Would expect anything else from Heineken SK?
ReplyDeleteZlaty Bazant is another of those beers that used to be decent and then got bought by a multinational. I am not saying that it was ever a world beating beer, but back in the early Noughties it was a step up from Gambrinus.
No I do not expect too much. My expectations where met with pretty much what I was expecting. There was just the sliver of hope for something better.
ReplyDeletethe year I met Mrs V we went to Slovakia to stay with friends for New Year and had a beer called Gemer, which at the time was independent. Again it was a case of nothing earth shattering but tasty and drinkable.
ReplyDeleteThen they got bought by Heineken. As far as I know, they shifted production and the brewery is still sat unused and for sale.....where's my lottery ticket?
Yep not the best choice, even people who party non-stop during summer festivals complain about the quality of this lovely beer...
