This is a random bottle of beer I picked up called Bad King John. It's brewed by Ridgeway Brewing in Oxfordshire but I have no idea who they are really. I can't find a website which is absolutely criminal in this day and age. It requires almost no technical knowledge to set up a quick blog based website and register a domain through it. They are doing themselves an absolute disservice here. I can't even find a bloody facebook page, thought I didn't look too hard for that.
Anyway the beer itself is a 6% dark ale. I was immediately hit by the body, a silky milk chocolate with a perfect carbonation level for the style. Some coffee but not too much and some toffee and dark fruits in the middle. A lovely beer that's very easy to drink with a slightly bitter finish. It might not be something I will seek out but it's something I would likely drink again if I came across it.
It's not exactly a stout/porter but it's pretty close to make little difference to most people. I don't know my British history very well so I don't know why King John was so bad and I can't be bothered looking it up right now. There are plenty of other bad English monarchs so I don't see the point.
