My first beer of the trip is pretty unique. For one thing it is not American and I believe this is the only non American beer I had all trip. I picked this up at a Sushi restauraunt for dinner the day I arrived. Suntory Malts is the name and it was quite impressive. The aroma reminded me of brewday, a fresh malty broth. It also was quite hoppy. The taste was in your face malt followed by a nice hop profile. It was quite a thick mouthfeel but also crisp and refreshing. By far the best Japanese beer I have had.
The next day we went to my first brewpub on the trip. BJ's is a chain I have seen advertised before as there are loads of them all over the US.
I went back for dinner another night and food the food was very good. Overall it is excellent considering the size of the franchise. Perhaps others my not be as good but the one I went to in San Rafael was brilliant.
On our first trip in to San Francisco I headed to the Rogue Alehouse.
The place was a lot of fun and is located in a very trendy part of the city. An impressive number of beers were available.
I only had time for one along with an appetiser for lunch. I went with Racer 5 IPA as recommended by my waiter. It was lovely, I was very hot and it hit the spot nicely.
Unfortunately I never got to go back there
From the supermarket I picked up this for my wife. It is called Great White and it is basically a wheat beer with some odd herbs in it. She loved it, I was less impressed. It was a little boring I thought.
